Competition Overview

The WorldSkills Competition is a competitive event held every two years that provides the opportunity for Competitors who win qualifying rounds held in countries and regions worldwide to gather in one place and compete in meticulously honed skills.
The competition is intended to promote vocational training and international friendship among young skilled workers in the participating countries and regions.

Background to Japan's Selection as Host

Japan (Aichi) was chosen to host the 49th WorldSkills Competition, scheduled for 2028, following voting by member countries and regions at the WorldSkills International General Assembly held on September 9, 2024 in France (Lyon).
It will be 21 years since Japan last hosted the WorldSkills Competition, and Japan's fourth time as host following Tokyo in 1970, Osaka in 1985, and Shizuoka in 2007.

Competition: 16–19 November 2028
Closing ceremony: 20 November 2028
